The 21st Century Learning Academy will provide educators with in-depth experiences on integrating STEM education into their classroom. The pedagogy, practices and implementation strategies taught will enhance professional practice and help build educators’ understanding of how STEM based instruction can benefit student learning. Participants will lead teams of STEM Camp for Kids students through the engineering design process while they create specific projects.

Summer Educator  Workshops

From Seed to Tree How Can That Be?
Do you use inquiry and energy transformations to teach photosynthesis? The equations mean nothing without understanding why light is important (light energy) and how gases are involved in producing a huge tree from a small seed (chemical energy). Join us for 3 days of engaging ways to teach the complex interactions using CER, ADI and Inquiry. Appropriate for teachers and facilitators of grades 5-9, but all are welcome. CPE credit available. Learn more and register here.

Black Holes, Dark Matter, GPS and PEE
Are your students curious about black holes and dark matter and are they prepared for jobs in the Quantum Revolution? Some estimate that over a third of our economy is based on quantum physics concepts, yet few have a chance to understand why quantum is important and relevant. Join us if you would like to increase your own understanding of modern physics, learn how to teach quantum or just want to see how students respond to these concepts. This unique workshop is only $350 and includes some equipment to take back to your classroom. Learn more and register here.

Participants will use the engineering design process to create a project that meets a need, solves a problem or create a product. During the three-day camp, teams of students will work with 21st Century Learning Academy educators to complete their project. STEM content and practice will be modeled and each team will use the engineering design process as a template for their work.

Quantum Mysteries Camp

This unique camp is designed for secondary students who are curious and want to learn more about black holes, dark matter, relativity, particle physics, bubble chambers and other quantum phenomena. Students attending the camp will be selecting four topics they want to learn about. There are nearly 20 topics to choose from and the topics vary in math background requirements. The $10 registration fee includes a light lunch and t-shirt. Learn more and register here.
